Post Holi Skin and Hair Care


The colors were great… The celebration was awesome…  Holi was hilariously fun. You were sloshed with colors, the “pakka rang” is everywhere on your skin. You stayed in the sun for a good number of hours. The celebration ended with beautiful and colorful memories.  Now what?
Now is the time for the aftereffects. The post Holi clean-up of your skin and hair. Your carefully nourished hair, your beautiful hair looks damaged after the wash. Your skin looks like a colored painting. No matter how hard you shampoo your hair, the color just won’t go. And the more you shampoo, more damaged your hair get. And your skin, it’s now rough, itchy, sunburn and absolutely dry and rash. What to do now?

Here are a few tips for your hair and skin care:

FOR SKIN :

  1. Clean it well: Make sure you bathe well after the celebration. If possible, use warm water, as the color can be easily removed with warm water. Use a body brush or scrub, as it helps remove the color better.
  2. Scrub it off: Use Face Scrubs. A fine walnut or apricot scrub could make a good choice. If you want to go with a homemade remedy, you may use sooji and buttermilk and make a good scrub out of it.
  3. Don’t forget to Moisturize: Immediately after you take a bath, don’t forget to moisturize your skin.   Use a good Quality moisturizer all over your body, specially the rash affected areas. If the rashes are more than “normal”, visit a doctor.
  4. Gel it all: Apply petroleum jelly to your elbows, knee feet and ankles. As these are the areas where the colors stays for longer than usual. Apply a good quality lip balm [Use tones of it] on your lips, to make them soft again.


FOR HAIR:


  1. Wash it Well: Shampoo your hair properly. Wash your hair two to three times with a deep conditioning shampoo, to make sure the color is washed off from the hair. Use warm water, as warm water helps open the skin pores as well.
  2. Deep Condition: As the color and sunlight pose great harm to your hair, it is advisable your condition your hair with a good quality conditioner. Apply good quality conditioner, massage it well throughout your locks and wash it off after 3-5 minutes. Make sure not to leave any trails of the conditioner, as it might pose more harm to your hair.
  3. Oil it Up: If possible, once the hair is dry again, massage your hair with warm oil, and leave it for a day and wash it the next day. Using mustard or olive oil is highly beneficial. You may also use almond oil.
  4. Hair Pack: You may also go with herbal hair care packs, which would help retain your hair’s health, and revive it from the damage.
  5. Spa: A hair spa might do wonders, to moisturize your hair back to normal.
